Everything in the natural realm has a spiritual parallel. Several years ago I began thinking about this concept and how many things we can see with our natural eyes have a direct relation to unseen spiritual matters. Here are a few brief thoughts on the topic of what I call “spiritual technology” and how it influences us in ways we cannot see with our eyes but can infer by peripheral observation. Take a look and then use this as a launching point for picking up these parallels and applying them in your own daily life.
Biblical Hint
Readers of my blog are very familiar with how I write regularly about the topic of metaphoric thinking with the application to interpretation of dreams, art, daily life circumstances, etc. Now, I’m taking this all a step further to show how we relate what we can see to what we cannot see. You’ll see here how a Biblical character is a very relevant example to how most people go about their daily lives unaware of what’s going on around them.
Jesus gave us a big clue about the unseen realm during a conversation with an educated but confused religious leader named Nicodemus on the topic of being born again. Jesus was speaking about being born of the Spirit but Nicodemus was stuck only in the realm of the world we see with our natural eyes. Nicodemus could not get past the idea of only seeing a natural birth in literal terms; he was unable to see how this also related it to a spiritual concept. Basically, he was a “natural man” who had no grasp of spiritual matters.
Jesus goes on to talk about the wind and how you can see the effects of it but you cannot see wind itself. He says that unless you are able to understand what you cannot see, you cannot have God’s kingdom operating inside you (see John 3). The gist of the conversation is that Jesus makes a non-negotiable requirement that we have a firm grasp of what we cannot see and learn to think in ways that are very much outside of natural convention.
If I have told you earthly things and you do not believe, how will you believe if I tell you heavenly things?
(John 3:12 NKJV)
But this highly educated religious leader, Nicodemus, could not understand what Jesus is saying. We have a basic idea of how pharisees were educated but if we really knew the extend of their training, it should shock us that he had such lack of insight. Today we have the same thing however. We spend tens of thousands of dollars on education and, just like Nicodemus, we have no clue about anything we cannot see with our eyes or by enhanced vision equipment like scanning electron microscopes or telescopes.
Stealth Fighters
So let’s shift this now into the application of my point. What I’m getting at here is that we have a modern-day parallel between our most advanced technology and the spirit realm. Stealth technology is the use of materials and design features that make it very hard or impossible for a radar system to detect the presence of an aircraft. This is of course used only in military applications and for the purpose of my article, this is exactly the point.
For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him.
(Colossians 1:16 NKVJ)
Stealth technology is basically a form of deception. If you are a radar operator in a country that is being targeted by the use of stealth aircraft, you will be under the false belief that there are no hostile aircraft in your airspace. You will be watching your screen with the belief that if you can’t see it, it’s not there. This of course puts you in extreme danger when you have an aircraft equipped with air to ground ordnance and a crosshairs locked on to your exact position!
So, just like the radar operator, the issue all comes down to again, what you cannot see directly affects you. Now let’s consider that there is an unseen realm that has both good and evil (hostile) entities that are interacting with you on a regular basis.
Origin of Thoughts?
This would be a great time to cover some basics about where our thoughts come from. What most people don’t realize is that not all our thoughts come from us. How can I relate this as another parallel to technology? Very easy. Take a very practical example of something most of us use daily. We have television and radio broadcast signals constantly going through out atmosphere but we don’t see them. If you have a radio or TV, you can tune into these but without that, you’d never know there was anything going on. Some of what is broadcast is positive and some of it is negative.
Same basic idea with the origin of our thoughts. We have angels and demons in the unseen realm and they are directly influencing how we think. The problem most people have is that they do not believe in what they cannot see! Most people believe that whatever is in their head is only a product of their own brain or subconscious thinking.
Unfortunately this is the predominant belief in the western churches and is exactly what I was led to believe for several decades. I have had frequent conversations with Christians who have zero belief in or understanding of anything they cannot see, despite the fact that the Bible clearly proves the opposite!
casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ,
(2 Corinthians 10:5 NKJV)
In the above passage, Paul is saying that we must take control over our thoughts. If that is so, then he’s saying there are times when something is not right about some of them. In the types of churches I spent most of my life in, I was taught that if we had a negative or sinful thought, it was our own fault and it meant something was very wrong with us personally.
Not once in all those years was I ever taught that demons actually existed and were the cause for many of these evil thoughts. Rather than learning about spiritual warfare and deliverance, we were condemned for any type of character flaw and given no help whatsoever. Let me say, that horrible and completely wrong teaching left me in bondage for decades in certain aspects.
Three basic sources of our thoughts:
- Our own brain or soul
- The demonic realm
- God’s realm (Father, Son, Holy Spirit, angels)
Everything in the spirit realm (#2 and 3 above) are invisible. That includes demons! Let’s back up to the stealth fighter topic. If you are in a country being targeted by stealth fighters, that makes the jets hostile to you. Demons are likewise hostile and have nothing good planned for you. Because they are invisible, they make you think they do not exist. That is exactly the point! So how can we tell when spirits are present?
Peripheral Observation
Just like with military stealth technology, there are ways to get around the invisibility factor and discern the existence of a thing that can’t be seen with our eyes. When an aircraft can’t be seen on radar, there are other ways to detect its presence. I can’t get into all that here but if you want, do a search online and find out for yourself. The same is true for demons. You can discern their presence by many techniques that involve what I call peripheral observation.
The basic idea is to note anything out of the ordinary with our natural senses in order to determine what is hiding in the invisible realm. There is a hint here in this verse:
See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil.
(Ephesians 5:15-16 NKJV)
To walk circumspectly around an unknown object means you go around and around the outer edges until you figure out what is in the middle of it. Sort of like connecting the dots (stars) in the sky to see the picture that a grouping of stars in a constellation represents. Here are a few ways you can pick up on a demonic presence:
- Odd behaviors and reactions that manifest in people being targeted by the spirits.
- Someone with a seer gift or discerning of spirits can detect them by an impression or as a vision in the spirit realm.
- Dreams can reveal the presence of spirits, both angels and demons.
Generally speaking, the presence of demons is almost always guaranteed when a person is experiencing negative, angry, destructive, immoral or otherwise unproductive thoughts. The more I learned about this, the more I began to understand how to combat these spiritual attacks and to change my own thought processes. Spiritual warfare is a huge topic and I’ll have to delve more into that at another time. For now, it’s necessary to understand what I’m saying about the presence of unseen demonic entities and the clear unmistakable and observable result of their activities.

Practical Personal Examples
A couple years ago I went to a Global Awakening conference with Randy Clark and Bill Johnson. I had never been to anything like this and I was determined to get the best training available on healing miracles. The night before the conference, I could not sleep. I woke up three times with the most unprecedented barrage of constant negative thoughts. It was as if there were people all standing around me yelling nonstop negativity in my ear (not real voices, just very “loud” thoughts). I was so tired after that, I was dragging during the entire first day of the conference. I had never in my life experienced anything like this. Interestingly enough, after the first night, this bizarre experience did not repeat for the remainder of the conference.
On other occasions, I had been to several prophecy conferences with Perry Stone and for a week ahead of time, I had a continuous stream of negative thoughts. Same thing repeated likewise for each of the events I’ve been to by David E. Taylor; the difference here was that the barrage would be both before and after and much more intense than the other two ministry events above.
No one in their right mind could say these thoughts just came from my own head. There was a clear correlation between my attending a Bible-based teaching event and the manifestation of the negative barrage of thoughts.
What I have learned from these experiences is that the more you push into God’s kingdom and learn to operate in it, the more aggressively the devil wants to shut you down. The higher the level of teaching, the higher the level of demonic attacks. What I have noticed among many or most western Christians is that they come to the opposite conclusion and run away from something when negative thoughts arise. If I had done that for the above events, I would still be stuck back where I was several years ago lacking understanding in very significant topics!
Medical Science
Let’s consider something on a much larger scale…we have multi-million dollar (probably higher) pharmaceutical drug industry that supposedly “fixes” people who have emotional disturbances of various kinds including personality disorders, sleep disorders, panic attacks, depression, suicidal thoughts and many other abnormalities. And the main problem here is that none of this actually works!
No one taking these drugs actually gets freed from the use of them! None of these drugs actually cure anyone, they only treatments used to manage a disorder. People who go on these drugs end up having to take them the rest of their lives. What I’ve noticed among people who are heavily into studying science is that they only believe what they can see with their eyes or their high-tech devices.
When evening had come, they brought to Him many who were demon-possessed. And He cast out the spirits with a word, and healed all who were sick,
(Matthew 8:16 NKJV)
The real issue here is the western-intellectualized Nicodemeon blindness that refuses to believe in or address what cannot be seen with the eye. In reality, there is clear Biblical proof that demons can and do cause medical conditions. In many cases, when Jesus healed a person, he first cast a demon out of them.
You cannot medicate a demon out of a person. Western educated intellectuals have been deceived by spiritual stealth technology. My point is not to go after medical science but to just use it as an example of what frequently does not work and how it is a form of a modern-day Nicodemus.
Application of Parallels
Aside from stealth technology and TV and radio signals, there are many other spirit/natural world parallels. I won’t get into any others here but my point is just to show that once you have the understanding of relating what is visible (natural) to the invisible (spirit), you can find many more of these parallels everywhere you go. The more you do this, the more you get the understanding that Jesus was trying to impart to Nicodemus concerning one aspect of how God’s kingdom works.
- Everything in the natural world has a spiritual parallel with direct application to, and effect on, our daily lives.
- Unless you understand what is invisible, you cannot correctly understand what is visible.
- Demons make use of invisibility to deceive you into believing they do not exist.
- What you cannot see can be inferred by peripheral observation or supernatural spiritual gifts that allow you to sense things in the spirit realm.
- The more you train yourself to operate according to the invisible, the more you will begin to experience supernatural results in the visible realm that defy any natural explanation.
- Check out what people like Kerry Kirkwood have to say about our thoughts and apply all this to your daily life.
