Moons: Lunar Mysteries in Dreams | Science & Biblical Metaphors

If you’re like some, you may have had a moon or two appear in a dream. I have! Several times in fact. Not only that, but I’ve received several emails from more than a few people here asking me what their dream of a moon means. I’ll admit, I have not always gotten the correct interpretation for them, but at least as it relates to my own dreams, I have been able to sort them out.

Since it’s been a while and I have not posted anything new on this lunar topic, it seemed like now is the time to revisit this. What I’ll do here is include a couple interesting scientific facts I stumbled across a few months ago and then add a few Biblical references to help those who may have had a dream like this.

If you haven’t seen my initial handling of this subject, check out the link below here. I first wrote a couple years ago about this based on a few of my own dreams.

As of this writing, I’ve now had a total of four dreams of moons. The first two were about the seasonal characteristics of my life at the time and the second two were about two different women and how they each were going to be involved in various aspects of my life. You can check out my original blog here…

Moons, Months & Cycles: Unusual Metaphoric Timing Symbols in Dreams

Aside from moons, but still related, I’ve also had another dream where I was standing on a distant planet that had a surface like the moon with a nighttime sky. That was the dream that first broke the code on my “mega prophecy” and revealed that I will have something to do with an energy technology breakthrough, specifically dealing with nuclear fusion (see link here).

Although that was not an actual moon, the fact it was very similar in appearance, is not a detail to overlook. As you’ll see below, there’s something science related that explains why I’m strongly suggesting the significance of this similarity.

Scientific Aspects of the Moon In Creation

One of the top ways you can know what an object means that you see in a dream is to study its real life characteristics. God created everything and it should therefore be no surprise that He uses those objects (or animals, etc) to speak symbolically. This definitely includes those things He created that are far away from our planet earth.

While I was doing a little study on physics earlier this year, I came across something I had never known or considered about our moon. Below is a short excerpt from the book I was reading that gave some very interesting insight.

As it turns out, our moon has a direct effect on stabilizing the earth in several ways. The distance, mass and orbital speed of the moon all serve to act as a governor for two key factors that are critical to life here on earth. The planetary rotation / tilt axis and rotation rate are each stabilized by our moon. Here’s an excerpt from this book that you can find recommended on my store page

Our Moon is like no other. The ratio of its mass compared to the mass of its host planet Earth is about 50 times greater than the next closest known ratio of moon-to-host-planet mass. Plus, our Moon orbits Earth more closely than any other known large moon orbits its host planet.

Thanks to these unique features, Earth—unlike the other solar system planets—possesses a stable rotation axis tilt, which protects Earth from rapid and extreme climatic variations that otherwise would rule out advanced life. The Moon also slowed Earth’s rotation rate down to the value at which advanced life could thrive and generated tides that efficiently recycle nutrients and wastes.

The Creator and the Cosmos: How the Latest Scientific Discoveries Reveal God, by Hugh Ross, ch 17 “Earth: The Place for Life”

There are also some modern discoveries regarding the moon as it relates to energy technology. I’ve been looking into that for the last couple years now and if you do an internet search, you’ll find out that the moon is a major source of Helium 3 (a well known fuel source for nuclear fusion). Three articles with more info on that are here:

With all the new science and technology discoveries, research and breakthroughs, do not overlook the possibility that God may be speaking to you about something in this realm. If you go back and look at all my blogs in the technology category, you’ll see an interesting progression which may apply to you as well. You’ll notice how at first, I had no real understanding of what God was showing me. Then later on, He progressively revealed more until I realized He was talking to me about nuclear fusion energy technology.

Believe me, I had no idea at all in my life that God was going to be talking to me about that! So when I say repeatedly that you must take the limits off your mind when it comes to the things of God – I am a perfect example of this. If there is only one thing you should take away from visiting my website here, that is it right there.

Yes, again and again they tempted God, And limited the Holy One of Israel.

Psalm 78:41(NKJV)

Biblical References to The Moon

This is now where I want to give a few references to the moon in Bible and the general idea for their meaning. The first reference we see anywhere in the Bible is that the moon is used as a light for nighttime but also as a form of “rulership”.

And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule [h4475] the day, and the lesser light to rule [h4475] the night: he made the stars also. And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth, And to rule [h4910] over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness: and God saw that it was good.

Genesis 1:16-18 (KJV)

In this passage above, the first two occurences of the word “rule” are from the Hebrew word quoted below (h4475) and the third is similar but slightly different (h4910). They each deal with a form of authority. But for most people, that idea probably does not make much sense until you get to Joshua 10 when God told Joshua that if he spoke to both the sun and moon, he could stop time for an entire 24 hours.

In the context of that passage with Joshua, rulership takes on a very different meaning because it shows that the sun and moon literally have governmental power over the clock. If you look further into the original Hebrew words below, that is exactly what they say.

h4475. מֶמְשָׁלָה memšâlâ; feminine of 4474; rule; also (concretely in plural) a realm or a ruler: — dominion, government, power, to rule.

h4910. מָשַׁל mâšal; a primitive root; to rule: — (have, make to have) dominion, governor, x indeed, reign, (bear, cause to, have) rule(-ing, -r), have power.

Strong’s Concordance “rule”

For a much more elaborate explanation on how the sun and moon control time, see Joshua Media Ministries International for all teachings on glory manifestations and sonship and to find out how this is relevant and possible today and …yes, this has been done in our time now.

So if we take all that above as our starting point, we can put all other subsequent passages (below) into a context set up by what God initially spoke of in the days of creation. In doing that, we see later how the moon is now referred to in various extrapolative forms of governing indicators.

In the passages below, the moon here is translated differently and speaks directly to the changing of the lunar phase. In the Biblical “Hebrew” calendar, this is how a month is marked off. Rather than include that text here from the concordance, check this link for more on h3391 (Blue Letter Bible).

And for the precious fruits brought forth by the sun, and for the precious things put forth by the moon [3391]

Deuteronomy 33:14 (KJV)

With the precious fruits of the sun, With the precious produce of the months [3391]

Deuteronomy 33:14 (NKJV)

The moon is also (on a greater level) connected to the changing of seasons. After the passing of several moon phases (months), you then enter into a new season. This also agrees with Genesis 1:14 which, as I say above, follows the original order of creation.

He appointed the moon for seasons: the sun knoweth his going down.

Psalm 104:19 (KJV)

The next verse uses the word “ordinances“, which is directly linked to the idea of rulership, but in this case, more specifically of the limits set upon that form of authority (see concordance reference for h2708). When you think of limits, you begin to see how this can relate to things like the ocean tides, the earth spinning on its axis and the length of days, etc.

Thus saith the Lord, which giveth the sun for a light by day, and the ordinances of the moon and of the stars for a light by night, which divideth the sea when the waves thereof roar; The Lord of hosts is his name:

Jeremiah 31:35 (KJV)

This next verse says more or less as we’ve seen above and again uses the same h4475 from above regarding rulership. The only addition here is that the stars are now included (I have not studied that aspect with the stars yet but this is now a rather intriguing addition).

The moon and stars to rule by night: for his mercy endureth for ever.

Psalm 136:9 (KJV)

Next verse below begins to give the idea of a mechanical / engineering / physics aspect of the moon as it relates to accounting. The lunar cycles are used as a clock to understand the passing of days in a month and for accounting during the year in order to know the appointed times of the Biblical feast days.

If you back up and really consider this from the physics aspect, taking again into consideration the quote from the book above, now you see God often gives huge hints in the Bible about science in such subtle ways that you could easily overlook it. This is what I first noticed when I did my study into the number 4 a year ago. That was how God got me to realize I needed to get up to speed on at least the basics of quantum physics regarding dark energy, dark matter and gravity.

Blow up the trumpet in the new moon, in the time appointed, on our solemn feast day.

Psalm 81:3 (KJV)

Joseph’s Dream – Moon As A Metaphor

Ok, so now having dealt with all the direct face value appearances of the moon in the Bible, we can make a brief comment about the metaphoric aspect as well. Just as we had the first mention in Genesis 1 regarding creation, we don’t have to look too far after that to see where a metaphoric meaning of the moon can be found…

And he dreamed yet another dream, and told it his brethren, and said, Behold, I have dreamed a dream more; and, behold, the sun and the moon and the eleven stars made obeisance to me.

Genesis 37:9 (KJV)

The funny thing about this passage is the reaction of Joseph’s family when he told the dream. As soon as he got the words out of his mouth, they all got angry at him. Why?

Because they all immediately knew the interpretation of it! They understood that the sun represented the father, the moon the mother, and the eleven stars the eleven brothers. So here we have the interpretation given right in the midst of that passage with the meaning of the moon symbolically as a woman, a wife and/or a mother.

So the moon here can, as has in my own dreams, refer to a woman literally. Within that, you can see another form of God’s governing plan in creation – this time in the family structure. The man (sun) at the top with the most authority and then the woman (moon) second to him with a lesser but also very different, necessary and complimentary form as it relates to both the parenting and man-woman relationship.

Therefore, don’t overlook the possibility that a moon in your dream may represent a woman, wife or mother.

Your Turn!

Well, I’d like to quit here but I hope this has given you a few ideas on how to understand the meaning of a moon in your dreams. These are not the only meanings of a moon in a dream, but it’s as much as I wanted to include in this article. For more meanings of these and many other dream symbols, check out the resources on my store page.

Thanks for reading another one of my super long blogs – I hope this has been helpful!

  1. Thank you for all this fascinating information! Never realized how important the moon was. Also, I wonder why God set the moon in place so that only one side faces the earth at all times? I heard references about the “dark side of the moon”, and it is true!
