Are you new to the idea of God speaking in dreams at night? Have you ever tried using a list of symbols to interpret your dreams but ended up with strange results? If so, you’re not alone! This is how I started out, and it’s a very similar situation that I’ve seen with some who email me. In this blog I’m going to speak from my own learning process, and I’ll add something new that I believe will help you.
In addition to today’s blog, there are other resources on this website where I have discussed very similar ideas. These include the previous blog linked below and my Marvel Dream Revelations video series along with the upcoming ebook. Each of these address various aspects of overcoming intellectual barriers to the supernatural realm.
Overcoming Intellectual Barriers to the Supernatural: A Hollywood Illustration
Spiritual Sensitivity Requires A Process
If you’ve seen me explain how my former self was perfectly illustrated in the Marvel movie “Doctor Strange”, then you know how hard it was for me to cross over to the supernatural realm. The intense struggle and nuclear mind wars I went through were horrible. But when I finally broke past the mental barriers, God used a crazy dream of a brand-new neighborhood built on planet Mars to show me that my accomplishment was very rare.
New House – New Neighborhood – New… Planet? Dreams With A Big Message
The whole point of my testimony is very simple… if I could do it, anyone can! Next I’m going to give two big keys that will help in your process of quieting the mind of the flesh and getting in tune with the very subtle voice of the Holy Spirit. As you continue reading this article, you will see why I make the point that the transformation you need requires a process, and that necessitates two things…
Process = your diligent effort + passage of time. (It’s not exactly scientific, but the equation works!)
And be renewed in the spirit of your mind;
Ephesians 4:23 (KJV)
God communicates in many ways, and we have to begin the process of expanding our awareness to all the various avenues through which He might speak to us. Here is a partial list of the ways I have received all sorts of messages from God…
- Dreams
- Visions
- Road signs
- Subtle thoughts
- A song on the radio
- Cloud formations in the sky
- Random events / “coincidences”
- Numbers / sequences of numbers
- Silence (what God is NOT saying often speaks volumes)
- Circumstances that force a personal change of direction
- An unexpected comment in a movie or real life conversation
In a section below, I’m giving you a couple keys and practical exercises that will help you with this process. When you do what I explain below, I guarantee you will begin to see results.
Overcoming The Mind of the Flesh
When I first began learning to interpret dreams, I had a major problem with the mind of the flesh. I frequently became anxious over some of my dreams that just “didn’t look right”. I jumped to conclusions without allowing the Holy Spirit time to speak to me about the correct interpretation. On top of that, I was actively asking God for life direction, and I felt like He was not answering me.
What I’ve learned since then is that God speaks much more often than we realize. Sometimes the problem is we are looking for Him to answer in one specific way, but perhaps He is instead answering by a different means. For instance, suppose you are expecting your answer to come in a word of knowledge or by another person, but God has already used circumstances or frequently repeating numbers to convey a message.
Suppose you don’t realize what I just wrote and you’re becoming anxious because it seems like God is not answering you. Well… I’ve been there! In fact, I went through several years feeling like God was nowhere to be found, and I was in a situation where I really needed clear direction.
Anxiety, fear and worry are often a sign that the mind of the flesh has taken over. If you come from a legalistic “religious” church background as I did, there is a possibility you will misinterpret “silence” from God as a form of judgment. This is how it was for me and because of that, I went through a very long time in a state of near panic because I thought something was very wrong. But… despite my background, I was finally able to make significant progress in getting freed from the prison of anxiety and fear, and so will you!
There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.
1 John 4:18 (KJV)
This verse below not only applies to “dead religion churches”, but it describes any one of us, whenever we have the mindset of a “carnal man”.
But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
1 Corinthians 2:14 (KJV)
Key #1: Music + Time
One of many keys you can use to increase your sensitivity to the very quiet voice of God is spending extensive time listening to certain kinds of music that will put you in the right mindset. Emotions can connect you with God and certain kinds of music will accomplish that. I’ve noticed that the more I do this, the better my connection is with God; not just at that moment, but it also makes it easier for me to get back “in the Spirit” anytime I notice myself drifting. There are certain songs that you will connect with more than others and those are the ones on which you need to focus.
I’ve also learned that sometimes you must listen to the same song repeatedly until it gets into you and transforms you. If it seems strange to listen to one song on repeat for 20 or 30 minutes, give it a try and you’ll see what I mean. If you don’t have a good list of the kinds of music I’m referring to, I’ve been slowly building a playlist on YouTube where you might find something that works. At the least, use this as a starting point for making your own list.
Key #2: Active Waiting (Time)
Another key that will be a huge help to you is something you might have overlooked that I just said above. You cannot rush God in answering. If you get the sense that you are not “in the Spirit”, DO NOT try to force yourself to interpret your dream (or anyone else’s). God does not always answer us immediately.
I had to learn the hard way, but there is a direct connection between impatience and pride. Pride demands everything now, and it takes no consideration for any reasoning why it might be better to wait to get your answer.
The requirement to wait applies to every area of life, and it is definitely true in our topic today. I’ve seen 18 months to 3 years go by before I got the interpretation to a couple of my mystery “science dreams”. Granted, it does not always take that long, but don’t be surprised if you have to wait a few days or weeks (or even months) to get the understanding of a dream.
There are many more keys than just these two, and I’ve dealt with them extensively in my new Marvel Dream Revelations product. Now it’s time to do something new and try a couple exercises that I believe will help you.
Practical Metaphor Exercise #1
To help you get a breakthrough yourself, we are going to do something new today. We are going to engage in a very relevant and practical exercise using image associations that will help you next time you find yourself getting stuck in the mind of the flesh. We are going to take the two images I’ve used here in this blog and walk through how to interpret them. Although this is a subject for another blog, keep in mind that the same method I’m using here will apply equally to interpreting both dreams and visions.
Before we start our exercise, I need to put everything into a proper context. Any time you are interpreting dreams or visions, you MUST get the overall context right. What that means is, if you start with a list of symbols and then go looking for their potential meanings, none of that does any good unless you interpret the symbols based on the proper context of the dream / vision. In case you missed it, I just used that word “context” a fourth time now to emphasize the point!
So let’s now get started. Go back up and look at the image I used for this blog. What is it? Actually describe it to yourself. Don’t go overboard, but just state the image in the most obvious terms. I’m going to list the main elements and give their interpretation in the context of this blog post. Here they are…
- White dove = the Holy Spirit
- Bright white = purity (no mixture of the flesh), pure spirit and mind
- Sunlight illumination = knowledge, revelation, understanding
- Black background = contrasts the above, similar to night, darkened understanding
Putting this all together now… We are dealing with getting our mind transformed and renewed so we can be pure, without the interference and pollution of the fleshly mind. In addition, we are receiving revelation from God that will shine a light to illuminate our understanding so we can be in tune with the realm of the Holy Spirit. The verse below is just one that we can use to anchor the interpretation…
The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,
Ephesians 1:18 (KJV)
Practical Metaphor Exercise #2
Here’s our second exercise now. We are using the inserted blog post image near the top of this article with the astronaut floating in space. You will notice that I am not interpreting this one exactly as the one above, but I skipped over a couple aspects that could be added if you chose to do so. My reason for omitting those are to streamline the interpretation and prevent it from getting clogged up with too much information.
- Space = place of no limitations (includes intellectual), second heaven / spirit realm
- Floating = being free in the spirit, overcoming worldly limitations
- Moon (partial) = dreams are at night and contain partial information that requires the understanding given by the Holy Spirit
I won’t summarize this as I did the example above because the three main symbol explanations were sufficient. I will, however, point out which aspects I omitted so you can begin to get an idea why simpler is better in this case. The two omitted elements are the blackness of space and the white (although dim) illumination on the astronaut. Those two did not contribute to the correct understanding of the primary message and therefore I only called attention to what was most important. Next is the primary Biblical reference that supports my interpretation…
Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.
2 Corinthians 3:17 (KJV)
Advanced Level Supernatural Realm
In the new Marvel Dream Revelations video series and upcoming ebook, I provide a detailed list of very practical keys to further help you sense the still small voice of the Holy Spirit, and activate a realm of the supernatural that very few ever attain. As of today, the ebook is 99.5% finished but the video series is fully available on my SubscribeStar page. At some point I will make it available elsewhere, but this is the option that stood out to me most as I researched the best ways to offer it.
