Dream Interpretation: Skiing In Good & Bad Conditions, Plus The Meaning Of Friends

Have you ever had dreams of skiing and being up high in snowy mountains? Perhaps you are not a skier. God often uses sporting events and activities as metaphors to speak to something going on in our life at the time. I have friends who do not usually have skiing dreams but instead see themselves playing golf, basketball, volleyball or some other popular sport. In addition, there are times when friends and acquaintances from the past or present will appear with various meanings. If you would like to see some great examples of all this, keep reading!

Biblical Basis For Mountains

A few years ago, I wrote a blog, Mountains, Hills in Dreams: Science & Biblical Metaphors, which will set the stage for some of the Biblical symbology in the dreams I am discussing today. That has been one of my most popular blogs to this day and you may have seen it by now. For the sake of efficiency, I will not repeat all that here. Suffice it to say, there are many verses in the Bible where you can go to in order to find a very relevant symbolic message that God may be trying to give you in dreams of mountains.

Also – for more examples of dreams about sports, here are a couple more resources:

With that short intro, let’s get into a discussion of 2 recent skiing dreams and the relevant real life situations they each pointed to…

Skiing Dreams – Interpreting The Meaning Of Good & Bad Conditions

March 9, 2022 – I’m skiing in a huge mountain resort area. I’m looking at one really good area farther away but first, I go down a different very short section that becomes slushy and there’s a lot of dirt mixed in with the snow. Next, I get in the lift line again with lots of people because I want to go back to the place on top of the mountain that I was first looking at. Seems like it’s about 4 pm and I’m thinking this might be the last run. Didn’t see anyone else I recognized. Sunny day setting.

Personal context: At the time of this dream, I was going through a very rough spot personally and spiritually. I really did not know if I was going to survive that but, the dream showed in advance that my circumstances would return to being very good again (which they ultimately did several weeks later). Therefore, this dream was God’s way of prophetically telling me the “end from the beginning” and that I would come out of the short term mess with a personal victory.

Primary Symbols Explained

  • Skiing = as a personally relevant symbol, this represents something I enjoy; generally, it also represents doing something by faith or making fast progress (see online symbol explanation).
  • Snow = often represents the glory of God and being in a very positive spiritual state (based on context… if this were a snow storm, that could be a negative symbol because it could represent a hindrance or a personal storm).
  • Good area = represents being in a good place spiritually and mentally, high up in snowy mountains often represent being in the presence of God’s glory.
  • Slushy area = not the best conditions (spiritually / mentally / emotionally).
  • Dirt / mud = represents the flesh, not being “in the spirit”, the mind of the flesh, difficult personal circumstances that can “get you stuck”.
  • Going back up = getting through a short term personal challenge but then returning to a positive spiritual state.
  • 4 PM = the #4 often represents a new season and new direction; more literally regarding skiing, this is around the time many resorts close for daytime skiing – that can also represent the end of a past personal season with the beginning of a new one.
  • Sunny Day = speaks to this being an overall positive dream and also that, despite the temporary messy conditions, the ending is projected to work out well (as it did for me in real life).

Relevant Bible Passages

Below are only a few of the many verses that tie into the dream – if you continue a word search using the themes contained here, you will see how many more exist. This is also how you do Biblical dream interpretation!

And Moses rose up, and his minister Joshua: and Moses went up into the mount of God.

Exodus 24:13 (KJV)

And his raiment became shining, exceeding white as snow; so as no fuller on earth can white them.

Mark 9:3 (KJV)

Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure:

Isaiah 46:10 (KJV)

But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

1 Corinthians 15:57 (KJV)

In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.

Genesis 3:19 (KJV)

Skiing In Mixed Conditions / A Friend As A Complex Metaphor

April 16, 2022 – I’m skiing with a friend named Teresa, at first in good conditions with normal snow but then, we get to a very long flat greenish icy area. Next, we get to a section that has all snow again and I am happy to see that. Now, I’m inside a building with the same people from a previous dream [of a 4-part series regarding politics, social media and nuclear waste]. We go up long flights of stairs and some huge guy is sitting there blocking the way; as I get to him, he moves out of the way. Next, we arrive at the top of the stairs. End.

Personal context: This dream illustrates a situation going on in my life for many weeks preceding the time of the dream. I was initially in a positive mindset, but then I got into an increasingly very rough time as a result of a major faith battle and severe mind wars. The dream concluded by showing good conditions returning and in real life and that is exactly what happened. Additionally, this dream was one of a 4-part series involving politics (which was a major contributing factor for my negative mindset). Here is what I recently wrote about that very long and unusual series…

Unusual Dream Series Illustrating Political Social Media Activities (Plus A Few Distinctions)

Primary Symbols Explained

  • Skiing = as a personally relevant symbol, this represents something I enjoy; generally, it also represents doing something by faith or making fast progress (see online symbol explanation).
  • Teresa = (a dual meaning) in real life, a woman with red hair whom I worked with years ago in the Washington DC area and as such, refers to my recent following of political events (see blog); additionally, I did not see the meaning of the name being overly relevant but it can tie in with the ultimate positive message – “one who harvests”.
  • Red hair = often represents a person of / acting in the flesh (based on Esau), in real life, this friend represented a different person whom I had a problem with last year for reasons that fit the meaning of this symbol.
  • Man on stairs = (a potentially dual meaning) symbolically, can refer to a demonic “strong man” which attempted to hinder me; literally, can represent a real person who appears intimidating outwardly but, in reality is not; often the size of a person in a dream merely refers to your perception of them regardless of their actual size (whether large or small).
  • Ice = very bad circumstances ongoing at the time, can lead to lack of faith which puts you on very “slippery” / dangerous territory.
  • Green = can refer to being “in the flesh”, especially regarding a very bad mindset I had during this time; along with that, it can refer to pride (especially of the mind) which ultimately defeats our faith and trust in God during adverse circumstances.
  • Climbing stairs = going back up to higher / more positive place which requires personal effort to achieve, walking can also represent being on a humble journey (especially in contrast to skiing and taking a lift to get to the top).
  • Happy (emotion) = (due to seeing the snow again) represents a prophetic message that things will again go well for me (that is exactly what happened about a week after the dream).

Explanation Of Friends As Symbols In Dreams

As you see from the list above, friends in dreams often refer to someone completely different, or even a personality trait which you are manifesting yourself. That does get tricky regarding accurate interpretations because you must discern whether God is speaking literally about that friend, or in a symbolic manner as I just described. In my dreams, I have seen friends from the past and present show up many times, and in each case, the meanings were highly relevant to real life situations for me at the time.

As an example from another dream which I included in a very long blog post here, a woman from the past showed up in my dream whom also contained a complex meaning. In that dream, it was a combination of the meaning of her name, plus my real life past acquaintance with her, that revealed a message God was conveying to me about a personal situation. In that dream, the woman did NOT refer to anyone else in real life. Instead, she represented a temptation and a very strong spiritual force that was trying to get me to backslide.

If you have not seen it, I have another very popular blog from a few years ago – People, Names & Colors in Dreams: What Do They Mean? In there are more tips you can use to discern what the people you see in your dreams can mean. Not to mention, just like one of these dreams above, the meaning of colors is also explained in that blog as the title suggests!

Relevant Bible Passages

Same as with the first dream, these Bible passages support the meaning of the symbols above and are only a few of many you can find when you start searching…

And the first came out red, all over like an hairy garment; and they called his name Esau.

Genesis 25:25 (KJV)

Lest there be any fornicator, or profane person, as Esau, who for one morsel of meat sold his birthright.

Hebrews 12:16 (KJV)

For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away:

1 Peter 1:24 (KJV)

Or else how can one enter into a strong man’s house, and spoil his goods, except he first bind the strong man? and then he will spoil his house.

Matthew 12:29 (KJV)

Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.

Proverbs 3:5 (KJV)

Then he said unto them, Go your way, eat the fat, and drink the sweet, and send portions unto them for whom nothing is prepared: for this day is holy unto our Lord: neither be ye sorry; for the joy of the LORD is your strength.

Nehemiah 8:10 (KJV)

And many nations shall come, and say, Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, and to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for the law shall go forth of Zion, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.

Micah 4:2 (KJV)
