Many times, including recently, I get emails from my blog readers with dreams of trains. This is a very common symbol and falls into the category of “common dreams” since it uses symbols that you see in everyday life. Just the other day, I had another dream of a train that served as an announcement of an upcoming event. If you are wondering what trains can symbolically represent, keep reading and I will explain the recent dream plus all the relevant symbols. This should help you next time you get a dream with any of the primary symbols you will see here.

Several years ago, I wrote a short blog with an infographic that gave some brief tips on the meaning of several types of vehicles in dreams. Included in there was a mention of trains. In this blog, I will give a longer explanation of the standard meanings of trains, especially for the type I saw recently. As with all dream symbols, there can be slight details or oddities that carry huge significance in the message God is trying to convey to us. Black Passenger Train Dream

April 25, 2022 – I see (from the front) an old style oncoming black passenger train that is going right through a large open area in a city center. It had unusual large things on the bottom of all the cars at the doorway entrances, like steps but, with a curved shape, sort of like a net. I did not see whether the train was a steam engine from the past but still, it had a much older style appearance.

Here are the primary symbols explained…

• Train (passenger) = represents a large organization or a powerful ministry with many people “on board” and all going to the same destination as with “one accord”, also represents being connected to something much larger than one’s self (see more here); alternatively, a freight / cargo train would represent business / commerce.
• Older style = this represents the “ancient” things of God and can also show up any time you see an older vehicle, or object that has a positive appearance as this train did, old also connects with the concept of showing proper honor.
• Black (color) = (this was a flat paint color, not glossy) in this context, it represents the secret dwelling place of God and the hidden Biblical mysteries of God, things that are hidden from open view; the flat paint style further emphasizes the lack of light which again points to the meaning of a dark place as when Moses went up the mountain into thick clouds when God came down to meet with him (see previous blog on darkness).
• Steps (large, net shape) = going out to “catch” people and bring them in, making an obvious invitation to gather as many people as possible (see verse below).
• City center = going out into the world to gather people at the place of densely populated social gatherings (social media), in full public view; this represents an evangelistic outreach.

A few relevant notes… Within a few hours after this dream, I began to realize what it meant. The train represents the global ministry I am part of (JMMI) which is about to begin a new 12 month program on ancient Biblical mysteries (see more at bottom). The setting where the dream took place (city center) symbolizes a public outreach effort (which this blog is part of). Because I am closely connected to JMMI, I very frequently get dreams about various events that are going on there.

Relevant Bible Passages

As always, because I am a Biblical dream interpreter, I include Bible passages that support all the primary symbols seen in the dream. These below relate to the following: the black color, the net-like steps, a city center, an upcoming event, evangelistic outreach efforts, the characteristics of a train and the theme of the event involving “ancient mysteries”.
